Nutrition

Research studies have shown that good nutrition and lifestyle habits may enhance fertility. Our bodies need certain vitamins and minerals to stay healthy. This includes the parts of the body responsible for reproduction. The food we eat and the beverages we drink can affect overall health. In both men and women, a diet high in unsaturated fats, vegetables, whole grains, and fish has been associated with enhanced fertility. Research has also shown that men and women who consume high levels of sugars and fat may have lower fertility rates.

Do not forget to mention your pre-existing infertility condition (if diagnosed). It all happens right in the Fertilligence app.

Hydration

Water is a crucial nutrient and a key to the functioning of each system in our body. A human can live for more than three weeks without food, but would not last for more than a few days without water. Water also plays an important role in processes that affect fertility such as transporting hormones, developing egg follicles, promoting proper semen volume and quality. Not drinking enough water can lead to dehydration, which may affect fertility. There is a large variety of beverages we consumer daily, such as seltzer, herb-infused water, teas, coffee, naturally sweetened drinks such as coconut water and freshly made vegetable and fruit juices, sports and energy drinks, smoothies, alcoholic beverages. Yet, some beverages could have a negative effect on our hormonal balance and contribute to infertility.

Exercise

Exercise plays an important role in fertility. Regular physical activity helps to balance hormones (e.g. androgen) and decrease inflammation while helping control blood sugar, supporting a healthy weight, and relieving stress. All of these factors play important roles in fertility. Moderate exercise typically produces the best results for women trying to conceive.

Sleep

Not getting enough sleep may change your hormonal balance. In women, this may disrupt menstrual cycles and ovulation, and in men, reduce sperm quality and quantity. Insufficient sleep is also linked to other fertility-disrupting lifestyle factors, such as weight gain, excessive caffeine consumption, high-stress levels, and tension with family, friends, or co-workers. Sleep deprivation has also been shown to reduce testosterone levels.

Supplements

Nutrients are essential to your health. While it’s best to get them from food, even the most balanced diet can lack certain vitamins and minerals. There are many supplements on the market right now that can address any deficiencies and boost your chances of conceiving. The key, though, is in understanding your unique needs and your partner’s unique needs and, from there, find the right supplements to accelerate your fertility journey.

How Fertilligence Helps

Learn more about most common vitamins and minerals, typical dosages, and contraindications from the proprietary research on Fertilligence app that is developed for most common infertility conditions (e.g. PCOS, Endometriosis) or generally healthy adults. Layer in live group classes, one-on-one appointments with Fertilligence nutrition specialists, supplements tracker plus the ability to order a variety of hypoallergenic supplements delivered right to your door.

Stress

Women with higher stress levels took 29% longer to get pregnant compared to those who had less. Stress is your body's reaction to a perceived threat, challenge or scare. Chronic, high stress levels can negatively affect health and fertility and can lead to less-than-optimal habits such as increased alcohol use, less restorative sleep, decreased exercise, a weakened immune system as well as sadness, anxiety and irritability, making it harder to connect with your partner. Chronic stress can also affect hormone levels including FSH and LH, which can impact testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone. This, then, can have a negative effect on ovulation and sperm production.

How Fertilligence Helps

With the Fertilligence app, you’ll learn more about the connection between stress and fertility. Through fertility coaching, live group classes, on-demand yoga and meditation, you’ll learn to curb anxiety and cope with day-to-day stress the way it works for you.

Mood

The mind-body connection is an important part of the fertility journey. Your thoughts can impact your emotions, which directly impact your body. The majority of people who struggle with infertility experience a range of emotions including sadness, anxiety, irritability, jealousy, isolation, and loneliness. Although it may feel impossible to maintain a positive attitude, decreasing those feelings can help improve your chances of conception. Research shows that overcoming negative thoughts can be beneficial in the fertility process.

How Fertilligence Helps

Through one-on-one coaching in the Fertilligence app, you’ll learn more about the relationship between mood and fertility as well as the steps and techniques you can use to stay positive. Ongoing live group classes directly in the app can also help boost your mood and alleviate anxiety.

Partner Connection

Connecting with your partner is critical when you’re trying to conceive. When you feel connected, you can feel healthier, have a lower stress level, have a more positive mood, and may have an increased desire for intimacy, especially during ovulation. Equally importantly, when pregnancy doesn’t come easily, it can put a strain on your relationship. Emotional, physical, and financial demands associated with infertility can impact everything from communication to connection, to your sex life, and that can make getting pregnant even harder.

How Fertilligence Helps

Using the Fertilligence app and attending personalized coaching sessions together will help you and your partner better connect and get in-step on your shared fertility journey. Fertilligence was designed to support both partners in this journey, with tools, classes, insights and coaching designed to improve your well-being as individuals and as a couple.

Environment

Common environmental toxins such as Bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates, arsenic, atrazine, dioxins, fire retardants, glycol ethers, lead, mercury, organophosphate pesticides and herbicides, perchlorates and perflourinated chemicals (PFCs) can negatively impact fertility in both women and men. Even so, they are found everywhere, from the air we breathe to the water we drink, to our food, personal care products, cleaning supplies, household products and more.

How Fertilligence Helps

Learn more about your environment and steps you can take to improve it in the Fertilligence app. Talk to your fertility coach or attend our live group classes on the topic for targeted insights based on your environmental and wellness concerns.

Weight

According to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, 12% of all infertility cases can be linked to weight problems. Overweight and obese women, for example, are twice as likely to experience infertility and, on average, can take twice as long to get pregnant. For many, excess estrogen prevents ovulation, increases inflammation, and impairs testosterone production.

Being underweight is harmful as well. The physical stress and inadequate nutrients lowers FSH and LH hormone levels, which lowers estrogen levels. This can lead to irregular menstrual cycles, poorly-developed follicles, or no ovulation.

For man, excess body weight can have a negative impact on sperm quality and quantity, as well as the rate of genetic abnormalities in the sperm. Sperm motility may also be reduced, making it more difficult for the sperm to reach and ultimately fertilize an egg.

If your BMI (Body Mass Index) is above or below the healthy range, start to implement lifestyle changes to help you get closer to a more optimal weight range. This is essential for supporting your fertility.

How Fertilligence Helps

Your coach-created fertility plan will include targeted diet and exercise, helping you and your partner achieve and maintain a healthy body weight. Live group classes, on-demand workouts and chats with our nutrition specialists and fitness coaches and an interactive weight tracker will round out your weight loss journey and help you prepare to conceive. Do not forget to mention your pre-existing condition (if diagnosed) so the program is tailored to your unique case.

Ovulation

Menstrual calendar

Understanding your cycle and how to optimize your fertility windows can improve your chances of getting pregnant naturally. In an average 28-day menstrual cycle, ovulation typically occurs about 14 days before the start of the next period. Ovulation varies from person to person, and even cycle to cycle. It’s important to track the cycle so that you can best predict your fertile window.

How Fertilligence Helps

Understand your ovulation cycle and fertile windows so you can better plan and prepare. The Fertilligence app includes expert insights on ovulation and maximizing your fertile windows, and one-on-one coaching helps you understand what next even if your cycle is irregular or unpredictable. Do not forget to mention your pre-existing infertility condition (if diagnosed).
