As you know, in these series, I am answering YOUR questions about all things fertility — everything from lifestyle hacks to boost fertility to handling things when pregnancy DOESN’T happen so fast.

So, onto today’s question: What should my top fertility health “resolutions” be in 2021?
The answer is simple: it depends.
As you know, at Fertilligence we help you boost your fertility from many possible angles. And we organize our content and tools in different categories: which we call our lifestyle modification pillars.
So my advice would be for you go log into the Fertilligence App and identify our 11 lifestyle modification pillars. Those are different lifestyle-related areas in your life where you can control your behavior and choices in order to enhance your fertility. Those are
So, step 1: read through those pillars.
Step 2: ask yourself how you’re doing at each pillar and give yourself a score. For example: are you eating according to our guidelines? If your diet is amazing, give it a 10, if your diet is so-so, give it a 4 or a 5.
Next pillar: how are your hydration levels? If you’re drinking 8 glasses of water a day, write down a high score. If not, lower the score.
And do this for all 11 pillars: so you know where you’re starting.
Once you’ve scored everything, pick the top 3 pillars where you scored lower: for example, let’s say I scored low on stress, sleep and nutrition. So now I know what my working areas will be in 2021.
By the way, if you need help with this scoring, you can go to the Fertilligence website and take our quiz. It will ask you a few questions and suggest what your priorities could be.
The next step is to formulate specific and achievable goals around those areas. For example: if I want to improve my sleep, my resolution can be: I will try to go to bed everyday by 10pm.
Another example: if my goal is to start eating healthier, my resolution can be: I will have 5 portions of different colored fruits and vegetables every day.
Notice that I am not necessarily super ambitious in my resolutions: I am not saying I will eat 100% healthy every single day. I am choosing something realistic that I am sure is achievable. That way, I know I will feel motivated and excited to keep up with my resolution, which will then become a solid healthy habit.
So now you have your fertility health new resolutions for 2021.
The next step is to celebrate when you achieve your goals. Congratulate yourself, reward yourself, even if it’s just a small celebration dance. This step is key to keep you motivated and excited.
And then the final step, which is the icing on the cake, is to evolve your resolutions. Once you feel you’re doing amazing at one of them, challenge yourself to the next level. This can either be within the same theme, for example nutrition, or you can move to another lifestyle modification pillar. For example, if you see you’re being consistent at eating 5 portions of fruits and veggies, you might want to add another layer: I will now try one new recipe from the Fertilligence app every week. Or, you might say: now that I am eating healthier, I will focus on staying more hydrated throughout the day.
Resolutions are wonderful if they help you strive to get better, get healthier and bring out the best version of yourself. Make sure you formulate them in a positive, uplifting way. Resolutions are your friends, not your enemies!
